Friends of Buena Vista
- seeks to preserve the uniquely balanced natural environment
, beauty and safety of the Buena Vista area by limiting growth
and urban sprawl
- opposes the City of Watsonville’s proposed annexation of almost 400 acres of rural land to develop 2,250 homes, anticipated to add 9,000 residents to the area.
- supports first using infill and redevelopment within existing city limits—before annexing undeveloped rural land—as a more responsible means of providing needed homes while still preserving valuable open space and minimizing urban intrusion.
- recognizes the need for additional housing within the county, but believes in strategic and responsible, not uncontrolled, growth that is done without voter consent, in keeping with the spirit of Measure U.
- seeks to preserve agricultural land, protect delicate plants and wildlife, and conserve precarious water resources. Large-scale development will burden an already fragile infrastructure by straining limited water supplies, increasing traffic congestion, overburdening crowded schools, and drain already underfunded emergency services.
- works with local government planners to achieve balance between the need for new housing, on the one hand, and maintaining the unique environment and natural beauty of the Buena Vista/Larkin Valley area, on the other.
The FBV Steering Committee is comprised of people who live
in the Buena Vista/Larkin Valley area: Bill and Fran Bruce,
Jan Candau, Ron Grubman, Karin Kerber-Smith, Bert and
Carolyn Post and Julie Scurfield.
